I like to embrace my dark side and let it influence my sound dynamic bringing in a haunting atmosphere and creating moody breaks, melodies with heavy, powerful bass lines. As we progress in electronic music it has become increasingly complex but at the same time formula. With no room for a human element, I find music is losing its soul. This is where the orchestral instruments such as choir, strings, cello, sax, and piano add emotional and cinematic impact. No limit to my style taking from all genres especially dub step, chip tune, glitch hop, jazz, classical, metal, and dance music. An abundance of retro video game sounds.
I have taken the same elements of grunge and applied them to my own style of electronic music. Instead of using the signature sludgy guitar sound I apply the distortion to my bass lines. I use my own style of effects like tape stop and re-trigger in replace of various feedback effects that grunge is known for. Just as Grunge fuses elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal, I amalgamate the same classic components into my sound palette. It’s important for me to also use modern musical genres like dub step, chip tune, glitch hop and dance music.
Electronic Grunge has no lyrics or vocal samples to express the typical angst-filled, social alienated, apathetic themes that traditional Grunge is known for. Instead I use hard distorted bass lines and glitch leads to express an uncomfortable and disorientating feeling as well as bringing the audience into my dark, socially confined head space.
In the same manner that traditional Grunge rejected the complex and high budget presentation of many musical genres, I tend to avoid flashy and obnoxious snare roll build up and risers, in favor of getting straight to the point of the music.
My love for Grunge and it’s disregard for social conformity is what drives me to make my own version of this genre. I feel the same angst and identify with the same feeling of general discontent that the original artists are famous for. My hope is to bring my sound to the forefront of the electronic movement and create a revolution of sound.
